We understand that our research at the University of Washington impacts many individuals.  We strive to promote awareness of our work to the larger community through many venues.  This page contains informative resources for media outlets, K-12 students and educators, and well as synthetic biology enthusiasts.

K-12 Education

The members of the Sauro laboratory have created educational games that introduce grade school students to concepts in synthetic biology and computational modelling.  These games include a synthetic biology text-adventure and a predator-prey simulator.  For a full list of interactive software or to leave comments about the applications, please contact Herbert Sauro.

The Department of Bioengineering – in conjunction with the College of Engineering at the University of Washington – hosts an annual Engineering Discovery Day.  Each year, students aged 9 – 17 visit the campus and participate in hands-on activities that demonstrate what engineers do andhow they work.  For the past 2 years, members of the Sauro laboratory produced demonstrations illustrating fluorescent proteins and interactive tutorials of how modeling and experiments come together in synthetic biology .  For more information on future Discovery Days, visit the UW K-12 Programming website.
